Howard E. Zabel

Howard Eugene Zabel 87, born February 4, 1928 at Western, NE., to Jesse and Anna Laura Koehler Zabel, passed away at his home at Cedarwood Assisted Living Center in Fairbury, NE on November 12, 2015.
Howard and his wife of 51 years, Charlene, farmed south of Western, NE for 30 years prior to retiring in Fairbury, NE in 1992. He was a graduate of Western, NE High School and attended Nebraska Wesleyan University. He served in the US Army from February 1951 to February 1953 and received an honorable discharge. He and Charlene were active and dedicated members of the United Methodist Church’s in both Western and Fairbury, and of the Grange.
He is survived by sons; Lynn of Lincoln, NE.; Dean & wife Jeanne of King George, VA; and Bruce & wife Brenda of Omaha, NE.; 6 Grandchildren, 3 Great-Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great Grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife Charlene, and his parents.
Services will be Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church with Pastor officiating. Memorials will go to the Jefferson County Health Facility.
