Irene L. Wolken age 95 of Diller, Nebraska passed away June 20, 2013. She was born February 25, 1918 at Tobias, Nebraska the daughter of Henry and Mary Rohr Endorf.
She was baptized on March 31, 1918 at Zion Lutheran Church at Tobias. She attended Zion Lutheran Parochial school and was confirmed. She graduated from Tobias High School (May, 1936). She worked for various people in Fairbury where she met and married Roy Schultis on November 30, 1941. To this marriage Russell and Janet Schultis were born. Roy passed away July, 1948. She later met and married Duane Wolken and they were married April 28, 1953. To this marriage Doyle Wolken was born.
Irene was a true farm wife and was involved in most farm activities relating to livestock, tending a large garden as well as preparing meals for her family and friends. In her spare time she enjoyed stitching and quilting. She attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was a member of ELCW, Eunice Circle. Her confirmation Bible verse was Psalm 27: “The Lord is my strength and my salvation, whom shall I fear”. This verse was a strength through her life. She cherished her faith, family and many good friends.
Irene is survived by her children: Russell Schultis and wife Carolyn, Janet Skrabal and husband Al, Doyle Wolken and wife Marlene, grandchildren John Skrabal, Julie Skrabal, Jill Skrabal, Greg Schultis, Jamie Schultis, Kim Burhop, Cheryl Denner, Kristin Helmerichs, Mark Wolken, Tyler Wolken and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Roy Schultis and Duane Wolken, brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 24, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Diller with Pastor Mark Liscom officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Diller. The family will greet friends on Sunday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury.
