Jan Lynn Beu was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1954 in Downey, CA to Noel (mostly known as “Buster”) and Opal (Bartlett) Folkers. Jan passed away Saturday, May 7, 2022 just five months from her cancer diagnosis on December 7, 2021 at the age of 67 years.
Jan graduated from Fairbury High School in 1972. During Jan’s high school years; when she wasn’t participating as a “Letter Girl” in the school Pep Club, she worked part time at the Sweden Cream and was often referred to as the “Sweden Cream Marsha Brady” since some folks thought of Jan as a Marsha Brady look alike.
After graduation, Jan started working at Roode’s Meat Packing plant and completed 33 ½ years of service for them. Since Roode’s was famous for their “red hotdogs,” Jan acquired her title as “Queenie Weenie.” Once Roode’s closed, Jan started working as a paraprofessional for Fairbury Public Schools. Jan enjoyed her school job and loved the students that she was blessed to work with. Although she loved her job, Jan was looking forward to retiring at the end of the current school year but had to change those plans and retire early, in December 2021 due to her recent cancer diagnosis.
Jan married Rick Beu on December 6, 1975. In this union they were blessed with their daughter Tatum who Jan cherished with her whole heart. Fairbury was the place they continued to call home for the next 46 years.
Jan and Rick were able to spend MANY weekends camping at Milford Lake enjoying the company of numerous friends, as well as checking out and making “bargains” at oodles of garage sales. If there was a bargain to be made, you could be assured that Jan would want a better deal (which probably came from Buster’s bargaining skills).
Jan also enjoyed going shopping with Tatum in Beatrice and Lincoln. On occasion, Jan would make a day trip to a somewhat nearby casino with her mom, Opal or a friend to test her luck with the slot machines.
Jan was preceded in death by her father Noel “Buster” Folkers, mother Opal Folkers and brother Randy Folkers, father-in-law Wilbur Beu, and mother-in-law Doris “Corky” Beu.
Jan is survived by her husband Rick, daughter Tatum Beu, grand daughter Tara Beu, great grandson Aiden Brungardt, sister-in-law Sharyl Preston (Kent), sister-in-law Renae Folkers, aunts Nancy Hernandes (Johnny) and Gail Fanders (Joel), numerous nieces, nephews and cousins as well as many dear friends.
Jan will be missed and forever in our hearts!
