Janet S. Hoeting

March 27, 1942 — July 14, 2022

Janet Sue Hoeting of Fairbury, Nebraska, the daughter of Maurice and Dorothy McIntyre, was born on March 27, 1942, at Fremont, Nebraska.  She died on July 14, 2022, at the age of 80.

Janet was raised on the family farm east of Fairbury.  She was an active 4-H Member in her elementary, middle and high school years.  Throughout her teenage years, she was an avid roller skater, square dancer and FHA member.  She graduated from Fairbury High School in 1959 and attended Fairbury Junior College.  She graduated from University of Nebraska with a Bachelor’s in 1966, Masters in Education in 1969, and Cal State San Jose at Fullerton Campus with a Masters in Library Science in 1994.

Janet was united in marriage to Walter Lew Hoeting on November 11, 1960, in Fairbury, Nebraska.  There were four children born in this union.

Janet taught in the Jefferson County rural schools for six years, served three years as a librarian media specialist in Hanover, Kansas, one year teaching Hawthorne Christian School in Fountain Valley, California, employed by the Riverside, California for 11 years as librarian.

Janet owned and operated Hoeting Studios, a Ceramic and China Painting studio.  She also farmed in Jefferson County and in 2009, Walter and Janet received the Nebraska Farm Award for farms that have been owned by the same family for 100 years or more.

Janet enjoyed spending time with her husband while they traveled around the country in their RV, playing in pool tournaments in the campgrounds.  She also enjoyed many types of arts and crafts including quilting, painting (acrylic, oil, watercolor and mainly china painting), bead work, making jewelry, photography, porcelain doll making, fused glass work.  She also enjoyed genealogy, baking, reading, getting together with her family, line dancing, church, swimming, bicycling and live theater.  She was not afraid to try new things and she was very spontaneous and flexible.  She was a collector of forest green glass, buttons, bells and fabric.

She was a member of National Education Association, Campers for Christ, International Porcelain and Teacher’s Organization, World Organization of China Painters, Jefferson County Art Guild, Hemet Valley Art Association, Doll Artist Guild, Porcelain Painters International Online.  And she participated in Evangelism Explosion and Community Bible studies.

Preceding in death, parents, Maurice and Dorothy McIntyre, husband, Walter Hoeting.  Survivors include son Kevin Hoeting of Fairbury, NE, son Karl and wife Elizabeth Hoeting of Fairbury, NE, daughter Kelly Hoeting of Aurora, CO, son Kent and wife Keonnie Hoeting of Beatrice, NE, grandchildren, Ambrosia, Abigael and Jacob Hoeting, Kiersten and Kayleigh Gray, Vicktoryia Hopper and Alexzandra Trisler, Sheanta Pryor; and great grandchildren, Eliana and Zoey Hopper, and Myla Ancheta.

Services will be Friday, July 22, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Carpenter officiating.  The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 – 8. Donations in lieu of flowers can be given to Youth for Christ International or Campers for Christ. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
