Janice Coordsen

September 10, 1938 — November 14, 2021

Janice Evonne Coordsen – beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend – was born on September 10, 1938 to George and Lizzie Fegter at home near Macon. She died on November 14, 2021 at the age of 83 at her home near Gilead. Janice was baptized on October 9, 1938 at Zion Lutheran Church in Macon and was confirmed on April 6, 1952 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Deshler. The youngest of eight children, she attended school in Deshler and graduated from Deshler High School in 1956. After high school, she worked at the grocery store in Deshler.

On September 28, 1958, Janice married George Coordsen, and the couple settled on an acreage near Gilead. Janice was a farm wife and raised three children in Debra, Kevin, and Valerie. In 1986, George was first elected as a senator in the Nebraska Unicameral, and Janice provided invaluable support for her husband during his sixteen years of service in the Legislature. Janice enjoyed sewing, kept a large garden, and canned produce. She also enjoyed crafting and never turned down the opportunity for a shopping trip. Following George’s passing, she worked on flower arrangements at Amanda’s Cottage in Hebron. Janice loved hosting her family and friends at her home and spending time with her five grandchildren.

Janice was preceded in death by parents, her husband George, her daughter Debra Fangmeier, son Kevin Coordsen, and infant daughter Christine Coordsen. Janice was also preceded by her brothers Alfred Fegter (wife Una Mae), Clarence Fegter, and Virgil Fegter; sisters Luella Windhorst (husband Eldon), and Maurine Wassom (husband Dale); brothers-in-law Ernest Coordsen, John Coordsen, and Walter Coordsen; and sister-in-law Minnie Wolford (husband John).

Janice is survived by her daughter Valerie Goebel and son-in-law Brice of Marion, KS; son-in-law David Fangmeier of Hebron; grandsons Joshua Fangmeier of Saint Paul, MN, Caleb Fangmeier of Lincoln, and Dylan Goebel of Marion, KS; granddaughters Rachael Lennemann and husband Kirk of Franklin, and Kaitlyn Goebel of Marion, KS; sister Gloria Reinboth of Deshler; and brother Delton Fegter of Lincoln, along with many other relatives and friends.
