Jeanette "Jeannie" Slater

Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, led Jeanette Lorie (Johnson) Slater home this day, June 25th, 2017 at Bryan Hospital, Lincoln, NE. Jeanette was born in Concordia, Kansas on February 5th, 1939 to Virgil and Neva Johnson.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents Virgil and Neva Johnson, brothers Duane and Michael and sister Diane, grandson Joshua Alan Slater and great-granddaughter Fiona Noel Wilson. Jeanette had a wonderful and fulfilling life.

She is survived by her husband Harley M. Slater and four children; daughter Lori and Jeff Botz of Fairbury, sons Alan and Desiree Slater of Auburn, NE, Keith and Toni Slater of Pipe Creek, TX, David and Gail Slater of Bucklin KS, sister Kathy Graham of Fairbury, NE and numerous grand and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Jeanette was a 1958 graduate of Minden, NE and a member of the Church of Christ in Beatrice, NE. Jeanette met Harley at a church revival in Minden, NE, in 1955. While Harley was in the Navy they started corresponding until Harley's naval service was complete in 1958, when the two had planned a June 1st wedding. Jeanette's life revolved around faith and family. Family was never just her children, but all children she had the opportunity to nurture. Her love and compassion spilled over into all aspects of her unique life. Jeanette always had an eye for style and the need to ameliorate every home she lived in from Arkansas, Colorado, California, Texas and Nebraska. She always took the time and passion to make a house a home or care for those in need. Jeanette had the opportunity over the years to put her talents and compassion to work at numerous jobs. She worked at an insurance company in California, the Richmond State School in Richmond Texas, Kellwood manufacturing and different daycares over the years. Jeanette will be profoundly missed by many.

Services will be Friday, June 30, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home Chapel in Fairbury, with Pastor LeRoy Koehler officiating. Burial will be in the Fairbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorials will go to the Family’s Choice.
