Jerry Edward Meyer, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, at the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury, Nebraska, at the age of 85. Jerry was born on July 7, 1940, in Montebello, California, to William E. and Hazel B. (Spahr) Meyer.
When Jerry was a young child, he moved with his family to Powell, Nebraska, where he attended grade school in the Powell Public School District before graduating from Fairbury High School in 1957. After graduation, he attended Fairbury Junior College, where in 1960 he earned an associate's degree in business.
On July 9, 1961, just two days after his 21st birthday, Jerry married Jacqueline Jean Joe, who stood by his side throughout their life together in Fairbury. Their marriage was blessed with three children: Jamie, born May 9, 1962; Michael, born October 28, 1964; and Beth, born June 20, 1971. Though their beloved daughter Beth passed away on March 30, 2015, her memory remains deeply cherished by the family.
Demonstrating a steadfast commitment to his country, Jerry served honorably in the Army National Guard for four years. Following his military service, he embarked on a distinguished career, owning and operating the family business, Consolidated Sand and Gravel—a legacy established in 1952—until his retirement at the age of 76.
Jerry found joy and purpose in numerous passions throughout his life. He was a talented artist and poet, and enjoyed expressing his creativity. As an avid fan of the Cubs and Yankees, he cherished annual trips to watch spring training games in Arizona with his son Michael. Jerry had a strong affection for his “puppers,” as he would call them, and enjoyed a lifetime of hunting for arrowheads, amassing a remarkable collection from sandbars. One of Jerry’s truest enjoyments was fishing, spending countless tranquil hours fishing—whether on the ice, at the sand pits, or setting bank lines.
Jerry took pride in gardening and baking pies, and many will recall his kindness in spending late nights cooking for his children and their friends, who would stop by at about any given hour.
Jerry’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He was active in his church community throughout his life, singing in the choir, serving on various boards, and offering his help wherever needed.
Jerry’s legacy extends beyond his professional achievements, as he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his devoted wife Jacqueline Jean Meyer of Fairbury, Nebraska; his sons Jamie (and wife Donna) Meyer of Fremont, Nebraska, and Michael (and wife Jane) Meyer of Chandler, Arizona; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William E. and Hazel B. (Spahr) Meyer; his daughter Beth Ambri; granddaughter Dannielle Meyer; his brother Larry (and wife Roma) Meyer; and his brother-in-law Don Mosher.
A visitation will be held on April 3, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home, located at 2414 H Street, Fairbury, Nebraska. Funeral services will be held on April 4, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church, 1111 12th Street, Fairbury, Nebraska. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Fairbury.
The family extends their gratitude to the community who loved and helped him in the latter years of his life, and to this we give a great heartfelt thank you!
