Jewell L Buchli

Jewell L. Buchli passed away to be with our lord and savior Jesus Christ at the Garden Side Nursing Home on May 3 in Fairbury, NE at the age of 82.

Jewell is survived by his wife, Margaret; children, William (Tammy) Buchli of Fairbury; Daniel (Theresa) Buchli of Alexandria; Matthew (Karie) Buchli of Alexandria; Scott (Alisa) Buchli of Newton, IA and Amy (Jeff) Hammer of Hebron; grandchildren – Jacob (Sami), Adam, Alison, Joanna, Michaela, Collin, Madison, Joshua, Christian, Benjamin and Alex; Great grandchild Eastynn; and siblings Glorine Joe, Lowell (Shirley) Buchli, Sharon (Harvey) Jurgena, Jack (Bonnie) Buchli, Pam (Ron) Lancaster and Ted (Kandy) Buchli.   He is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Grace Buchli, and Brother-in-law Harley Joe.

Jewell was born on November 20, 1935 in Fairbury, NE to Paul and Grace Buchli.  He attended District #10 until 8 ^th grade and then graduated from Alexandria High School in 1953. Jewell served in the National Guard from 1955 to 1963 and worked for the Burlington RR from 1956 to 1959.    On May 20, 1961, Jewell married Margaret McClure and were blessed with 55 years of marriage, 5 children, 11 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild.   Jewell and Margaret resided on their farm just West of Alexandria until moving to “town” Fairbury, NE in 2004.

Jewell farmed with his brothers Jack and Lowell and in 1966, opened Buchli Implement (an Allis-Chalmers Dealership) in Hebron, NE.  They continued this entity together until 1983.  Jewell then farmed “full time” with sons Dan and Matt until his retirement.   Though retired, Jewell helped out as much as he could on the farm, especially during spring planting and fall harvest.   One of his favorite things in the fall was running an AC Gleaner combine during corn harvest.

Jewell was a dedicated family man and was most proud of the family that he and Margaret created.  He will be greatly missed by all.

A funeral is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 7 at the Presbyterian Church in Fairbury, with Lana Likens officiating. The family will greet friends and family Sunday May 6 ^th from 2 to 4 pm at the Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home.  Burial will be at the Fairbury Cemetery after the funeral and a reception will follow afterward at the church.  In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Presbyterian Church at Fairbury, NE.  Condolences can be sent to the funeral home.
