Jimmy Lee Roeser

Jimmy Lee Roeser died November 3, 2022. Jimmy Lee Roeser was born June 21, 1938 to Maxine (Brown) and Lee Howard Roeser in Salina, KS. His father died when he was 2 and he was raised by his mom and maternal grandparents. He graduated from Salina High School in 1957. After high school he joined the National Guard. Jim married Erma Banzet in 1966. They had one son, John.

Jim worked for Helbert’s Distribution Co. which distributed Coors Beer. Jim then worked in general merchandise stores in five different states as either store associate, assistant manager or store manager. Stores included Neisner’s, Gibson’s, Wheeler’s, Orscheln’s. He worked at Walmart until a car accident in May 2022.

Some of his interests were bowling, fishing and watching sports mainly football and baseball. He coached Legion Baseball with Don Ehrett and umpired youth baseball for many years. Playing the slot machines at a “nearby” casino was a joy for him, and he was often a winner. Jim never met a stranger. He could be several cities or states away from Nebraska and would start a conversation with someone. He would pay his great nieces and nephews quarters for saying “Go Big Red” or “Go Nebraska” but paid his great-great nieces and nephews dollar bills! He was affectionally called Chicken Jim because of the care he took with the baby chicks in the store. Jimmy also loved to garden and supplied plenty of tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers to friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife Erma, parents, grandparents, and special friend Vivian.

He is survived by his son John and brother Ray (Sylvia); granddaughters Paitlyn, Ashlyn, Kylyn; nephews Jeff (Carrie) and Tim; niece Kathy and many great-nephews and nieces; friend Matt Kapke.
