Joan Elizabeth Flower Godfrey passed away on June 4, 2021 at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury at the age of 90 years, 5 months and 14 days. She was born on December 21, 1930 to Ernest G. and Elizabeth Mitchell Wilkinson in Fairbury, Nebraska.
She graduated from Fairbury High School with the class of 1948. On June 20, 1948 she married Max A. Flower at the First Baptist Church in Fairbury. To this union two daughters were born. After Max’s death in 1996 she married John A. Godfrey on March 10, 2001. John passed away in August, 2002. Joan was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church in Fairbury and served on various committees. Joan loved her church, her family, her church family, cooking, entertaining and the Huskers.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husbands Max Flower and John Godfrey and son-in-law Ronald Carrel.
Survivors include daughters, Marci Knispel and her husband Jerry of Fairbury, Peggy Carrel of Beatrice, grandsons Ryan Knispel and his wife Michelle of Omaha, Judd Knispel and his wife Becky of Council Bluffs, Ben Carrel of Beatrice and Jeff Carrel and his wife Amber of Beatrice, sister Sharon McClure and her husband Howard of Lincoln, sister-in-law Shirley Rippe of Hebron and 10 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services will be Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at 1:30 PM at the First Baptist Church in Fairbury. Burial will be in the Fairbury Cemetery. Memorials will go to the family’s choice. Viewing will be Monday and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. – 8:p.m. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. www.gerdesmeyerfh.com
