Joanne M. Ellis

Joanne Ellis passed away October 18, 2013 at Gardenside Nursing home in Fairbury, NE. Born August 16, 1924 in Stockhom, Nebraska.

Joanne graduated from grade school and high school in Hastings, NE and also attended Hastings College where she studied Interior Design. Joanne worked at the Hastings Naval Ammunition Depot where she met and later married Samuel Ellis on September 1, 1946. Joanne and Sam moved to Fairbury, Nebraska and started a hatchery and feed business. They later sold the business and Sam went to work at the First National Bank and Joanne became the bookkeeper for OK Tire Store. Joanne was an active member in the United Methodist Church of Fairbury and served many offices in the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi in Fairbury for a number of years

. She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Ellis, parents William and Bertha Engelhardt (Wenzlaff), brother Paul Engelhardt, son Rick Ellis and grandson Mark Ellis. Survived by daughter Peggy Palmerton, granddaughters Angela Keim and Michelle Decker, grandson Zachary Palmerton, eleven great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law Donna Ellis, other extended family and many friends.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Fairbury with Pastor Warren Schoming officiating. Burial of cremains will be in the Fairbury Cemetery.
