John H. Folkner

John Howard Folkner passed away at the age of 81 on December 3, 2021, at Jefferson Community Health and Life Gardenside Long Term Care in Fairbury. John was born December 25, 1939, in Richmond, CA to Howard Markess Folkner and Viva Marie (Criner) Folkner. He was baptized at Feather River Butte County, CA and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church in Oroville, CA. John attended school at Feather Falls, CA and high school at Oroville, CA, graduating in 1957. He went to Yuba College in Marysville, CA and graduated with an Associate of Arts degree in 1959 and then to Chico State for three years. John worked for the UP Railroad for 36 years.
He loved God, his family, and his cat Nellie Bell. His faith was very important to him. John enjoyed playing cards, reading, movies, listening to the radio and books on tape. John lived at Gardenside for the last 10 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by cousins Jan Troxel, Don Criner & wife Connie, Delbert Criner, Elaine Garrett, Nancy Riggle & husband Ken, Delores Austin, and their families.
Memorial services will be Saturday, January 8 at 1:30 p.m. at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Chapel in Fairbury. www.gerdesmeyerfh.com
