John W. Snyder

John W. Snyder age 82 of Fairbury, Nebraska passed away on November 25, 2012 at the Heritage Care Center from cancer. He was born October 1, 1930 at Fairbury the son of Owen W. and Ruby M. McCord Snyder.

He graduated from Fairbury High School in 1948 and attended Fairbury Junior College for one semester. He served in the United States Marine Corps for two years, one of which was in Korea with a Marine construction unit. He was a member of the Fairbury United Methodist Church, Fairbury Elks Lodge, American Legion and the V.F.W.

On September 26, 1954, he married Marilyn J. Iverson of Fairbury in the United Methodist Church. They lived and farmed northeast of Fairbury for 58 years. Three children will born to them: Steven J., Sally K. and Andrew W.

Survivors include his wife Marilyn Snyder, sons Steven Snyder and wife Patty, Andrew Snyder and wife Toni, daughter Sally Beckworth all of Fairbury, grandsons Alex Beckworth of Lincoln, Aaron Snyder of Kansas City, Kevin Snyder of Fairbury, granddaughters Julianne Wilson and husband Lonnie of Twenty Nine Palms, California, Rachel Snyder, Michele Snyder, Kelsey Snyder all of Fairbury, great-grandson Lincoln Wilson of Twenty Nine Palms, California, sister Elaine Hahn of Fairbury.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Suzaine Roelfs, brothers-in-law Dale Roelfs and Dale Hahn.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, November 30, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Fairbury with Pastor Warren Schoming officiating. Burial of cremains will be at the Fairbury Cemetery. Memorials are to the church. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury.
