Jon ‘Steve’ Black, 83, of Fairbury, NE, passed July 25, 2026.
Steve was born on December 25, 1942 in Fairbury, NE to Clarence F. Black Sr. and Mildred G. Feith Black.
He graduated from Fairbury High School in 1960 and went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman.
He married Shirley Siebe Hunt on April 4, 1986. From this union 5 stepchildren were born: Jim, Thom, Mary, Brenda, and Susie.
Steve was a dedicated 50-year member of the Shriners and a 63-year member of the Fairbury Elks Lodge #1203.
He enjoyed spending time with family and grandchildren and had a love for horses, car shows, and many sports including Husker football, golf, and fishing.
Those who knew him will remember his sense of humor, and devotion to family. As well as the stash of m&m’s he kept in his shirt pocket.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Black of Fairbury, NE, sister Cheryl Huss of Omaha, NE, sister-in-law Marilyn Black of Fairbury, NE, Jim (Bobbi) Hunt of Flagstaff, AZ, Thom Hunt of Fairbury, NE, Mary (Jim) Criner of Endicott, NE, Brenda (Rick) Krause of Overland Park, KS, and Susie Hunt (Casey Olds) of Kendallville, IN, daughter-in-law, Iryne Hunt of Fairbury, NE, 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mildred and Clarence Sr, his brother Clarence Jr, and his brother-in law Darrell Huss.
Friends may sign the register book from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home, Fairbury.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the Fairbury Methodist Church, with Pastor Seung Ho Park officiating.
A luncheon will follow the service at the church. A private family burial will take place at the Fairbury Cemetery following the luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sesostris Shriners of Lincoln, NE, and may be mailed to Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home, PO Box 15, Fairbury, Nebraska, 68352.
