Joyce Verlene Minge, a beloved resident of Fairbury, peacefully departed this world on January 10, 2024, at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury. Born on December 21, 1940, to Theodore Jesse and Nellie Marie (Drake) Maple in Fairbury, Joyce's life was a testament to love, family, and service to others.
A graduate of Fairbury High School in 1959, Joyce embarked on a journey that led to a beautiful union and the birth of three cherished children: Debra, Jerry, and Kevin.
From her early years to her final moments, Joyce forged enduring connections grounded in family values and a commitment to serving others. She wore many hats throughout her professional life, serving as a secretary, Sunday school teacher, and assistant manager. Her dedication and warmth created bonds that stood the test of time.
Joyce found joy in the sport of bowling, the thrill of a bit of gambling, and the simple pleasures of playing games with her loved ones. These activities became the backdrop for lifelong relationships that enriched her journey.
As the seasons of life unfolded, Joyce embraced the tranquility of the lake, the camaraderie of camping, and the freedom of boat outings during her retirement years. Her vibrant personality and social spirit endeared her to small camping communities, leaving a lasting legacy of warmth and joy.
In her later years at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury, Joyce continued to shine, making friends among both residents and staff. She found solace in attending church services, nurturing her spiritual connection.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, two brothers, three sisters, and son Jerry. She leaves behind a legacy of love survived by her daughter Debra Junker-Post of South Carolina, son Kevin Junker (Lisa) of Yukon, OK, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service in celebration of Joyce's life will be held on Monday, January 15th, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Fairbury. The service will be followed by lunch, with burial to take place at Odell Cemetery in Odell, NE. Memorials in her honor will support the Heritage Care Center.
