Joyce Schmidt

Joyce Mae Eilts Schmidt, 67, Fairbury, went to her final resting place on February 14th, 2013 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center due to health complications. She was born March 1, 1945 to Bernard and Eleanor (Fishell) Eilts.


She made Fairbury Nebraska her home her entire life. She was a student of Fairbury Public Schools, Class of 1963. On March 4, 1961 she married Gary Schmidt to which this union three children were born.


Throughout her life she worked at Jefferson County Memorial Hospital, Wonderbread thrift store, and then she became a partner in owning and operating Schmidt's Milk Route, later to be known as Schmidt's Inc, with her husband. Earlier in her life she enjoyed sewing, bowling, and dancing with her husband. Later, she enjoyed traveling, games of chance, and activities with her kids and grandkids. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fairbury.


She is survived by daughter Kim Bush and husband Alan, son Kevin and wife Monica, all of Fairbury, daughter Kendra Weers and husband Darin of Diller. Grandchildren include Dustin Schmidt, Nathan Schmidt and fiance' Lindsey Krings, Devan Schmidt, and Kaitlin Bush, all of Fairbury. Neleigh, Esdon, and Myleigh Weers of Diller. Great Grandchildren include Malik, Kelbie, Meigha, and Easton. Sisters include Connie Hoover, Marcia Kirchoff and husband Greg, all of Wilber, Sherrie Shultz and husband James, of Fairbury, Carol Dormer and husband Jim of Lincoln. Brother Sidney Eilts of Fairbury, Brothers-in-law, Leonard Gastmann of Lincoln, Dennis Schmidt and wife Cathy of Robinson, Kansas., Roger Schmidt and wife Sharon, Jim Schmidt and wife Janice, all of Fairbury. Harry Schmidt and wife Joan of Beatrice. Sisters-in-law, Marilee Perri of Chatsworth, CA. Mary Wiegert and husband Harold, Cheryl Swartz and husband Mike all of Fairbury, Janet Jantzen and husband Ron of Jansen, Barb Alwin and husband Steve of Colby, KS, Fay Malchow and husband Roy of Beatrice, and many nieces and nephews.


She is preceeded in death by husband of 51 years, parents, sister, Lois Huffman-Gastmann, brothers Jim Eilts and Leo Huffman, and nephew Ronnie Walker.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Fairbury with, Pastor Warren Schoming officiating. Burial will be in the Fairbury Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family's choice in lieu of flowers. The family will greet friends on Monday, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
