Judson H. Gaston, 104 of Fairbury, NE passed away May 24, 2017 at the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury. He was born near Alexandria, NE on January 28, 1913 to Charles and Jessie (Ross) Gaston.
Judson was the middle child of 15 children, 7 brothers and 7 sisters, all passing before him. His mother passed when he was 14 years old. All the children had chores to do helping on the farm. Judson helped his father pick corn for a couple hours, change his clothes and then ran all the way to school. He was never late. In the fall and winter he would trap animals and sell the pelts to make extra money for the family.
Judson met his wife, June, at a dance and in later years he himself called square dances for friends and family at the Snyder Ranch. He and June had four children, Shirley, Lyle, Judy and Tom. He also has 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Judson and June purchased her family’s 320 acre farmstead east of Alexandria. The barn burned after being struck by lightning and he built a barn to house dairy equipment. He purchased Holstein cows from Wisconsin to start his Grade A Dairy Farm. One of their favorite places to go on short trips was Estes Park in Colorado, June loved the mountains. In 1963, they sold the farm and moved to Lincoln. He worked at Cushman’s and Pauley Lumber Company for many years until retiring. They moved back to Alexandria, purchased and remodeled their house. His hobby was woodworking. He made the mantle and shelf clocks for all his children and grandchildren. They all have many treasured items he made for them.
Judson and June loved to travel with an aunt & uncle and by themselves in a mini-home all over most of the States and Canada, also camping at Lovewell Dam with all the children and friends. June passed away in 1996. Judson continued to live in Alexandria until 2010 when he moved to Cedarwood, then to Heritage Care Center. He was a special Dad, with a special smile, a big heart, a hearty laugh and a great sense of humor.
Survivors are son Lyle (Dianne) Gaston of Ceresco, daughter Shirley (Lowell) Buchli of Alexandria, Judy (Gary) Wright of Eagle, daughter-in-law Glenda Gaston of Lincoln, 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
