Obituary

Kathleen Jansen, 72 of Fairbury, passed away March 5, 2026 at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury, NE. Kathy, born June 16, 1953 in Kearney, NE to Donald Lee and Marjorie Jean (Beaver) Weaver and lived in a small town west of Kearney.

As an only child, Kathy moved to Kearney when a friend invited her to share an apartment. She graduated high school and worked in housekeeping and babysitting throughout her adult life. Kathy met her husband Norman through her babysitting work. He had placed an ad in the paper looking for someone to babysit, and that's how their relationship began. They later married, though Norman has since passed away.

In her leisure time, Kathy enjoyed various activities that keep her mind and body active. She had a particular fondness for puzzles, especially crossword puzzles and word searches. She was an avid sports fan, with a special interest in Nebraska football and volleyball. When it came to television, Kathy loved watching western shows. Outdoor activities were also important to Kathy. She liked mowing lawns, doing yard work, and gardening. These activities not only kept her physically active but also allowed her to enjoy the fresh air, which she valued greatly. Despite her love for outdoor pursuits, Kathy wasn't much of a morning person.

Kathy had a strong connection with animals, particularly dogs. Over the years, she had many canine companions. While she enjoyed the company of pets, she was not as enthusiastic about large crowds or group activities. When it comes to entertainment, Kathy prefered country music above other genres.

Kathy's primary support person was Jim, whom she appreciated deeply. She said, "Jim does everything he possibly can to do things when he is available." This relationship was a significant source of strength and comfort for her.

Overall, Kathy was a woman who valued her independence, enjoyed life’s simple pleasures like country music and puzzles, and had a strong connection to outdoor activities.

Kathy is preceded in death by her husband, Norman T. Janssen; parents Donald and Marjorie; and son Kelly Janssen.

Kathy is survived by son James “Jim” Janssen of Fairbury.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 12 at 11:00 am at the First Christian Church in Fairbury, NE with Darlene Novotny officiating. Inurnment in Jansen Cemetery following the luncheon.
