Kent B. Wilkinson

Kent B. Wilkinson, age 88, of Fairbury, NE died on Tuesday, June 4, 2013. He was born June 26th 1924 at Greenleaf, KS to LeRoy E. Wilkinson and Florence M. (Beggs) Wilkinson.


His elementary education was at Dewey school and Rock school. He then graduated from Morrowville High School in 1942. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in August 1943. He developed health problems while in the service and received an Honorable Medical Discharge in 1944 and was a lifetime member of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans), American Legion Post #24.


He married his high school sweetheart, Marjorie A. Terpening November 18, 1944. Three daughters were born to them, Judy, Janet, and Julie. He was blessed with six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Family was always most important in his life.
Early married years were spent in Endicott NE where he was employed at Endicott Brick and Tile. They attended the Endicott Methodist Church where Kent, Marjorie and Judy were all baptized together as a family, and Kent and Marjorie joined the church on May 15, 1949.
In 1952, Kent was employed by the Fairbury Co-op Creamery where he drove a cream truck and the family moved to Fairbury in 1953. In 1960 he purchased a truck and milk routes, and owned and operated them until 1974 when his health forced him to sell the business.
From 1976 to 1986 he was employed by Kellwood and Swingster Manufacturers at Fairbury.

He loved the out of doors and gardening and fishing were favorite hobbies in younger days. Bowling and horseshoes were gradually replaced by reading and word puzzles in later years. A good card game was always a favorite way to spend his leisure time with friends and family. He was a kind, loving, and a devoted family man. Those who knew and loved him will remember his fun loving spirit. He enjoyed a good laugh and was a kid at heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Kenneth and Keith, and a son-in-law, Tom Hendrickson.

Left to morn his absence are his wife Marjorie, his three daughters, Judy Hendrickson, and Janet Hall of Lincoln and special friend Rod L’Heureux of Pender, NE, and Julie and husband Mike Quinn of Fairbury; six grandchildren, Lori (Mike) Fredrickson of Highlands Ranch, CO, Jill (Hubbard) Duranski of Lincoln, NE, Spencer (Tara) Hall of Bloomington, IN, Stephanie (Craig) Johnson of Lincoln, NE , Cortney (Mike) Kleffner of Wahoo, NE, and Chelsey Quinn of Lincoln, NE; eleven great grandchildren; nieces and nephews, and many others who loved him.

Services will be held at the Fairbury United Methodist Church at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 12, 2013, Pastor Warren Schoming officiating. Memorials in care of family will be donated to the Fairbury United Methodist Church.
