Kevin Lee Coordsen – beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend – was born on January 22, 1963 to George and Janice (Fegter) Coordsen. He died on September 7, 2020 at the age of 57. Kevin was baptized on February 10, 1963 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gilead and was confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in Hebron. Kevin grew up on their family farm near Gilead. Along with his two sisters, he helped his parents raise livestock and crops, creating many happy and hilarious memories along the way. He attended elementary school in Gilead and graduated from Fairbury High School in 1981. After high school, he attended Southeast Community College in Milford and earned a degree in cabinetry.
In 1988, Kevin enlisted in the United States Air Force. He completed his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, received additional training at Biloxi Air Force Base in Mississippi and was stationed in Altus, Oklahoma. He served in Operation Desert Storm and was stationed on the Italian island of Sicily in 1991. Following his service, he moved to Denver and later Los Angeles, where he worked at a custom furniture design and manufacturing company.
Following his sister Valerie’s house fire in 2000, Kevin moved to Marion, Kansas and built her a new home in 2001 to 2002. He then moved back to the family farm near Gilead in 2003, where he remodeled homes and shared his handyman skills. He paid attention to the details of woodworking and had a great deal of patience with all his projects. A lifelong learner, Kevin had a passion for cooking new dishes and loved to make food for family and friends and share old stories. We will deeply miss those shared meals and conversation together.
Kevin was preceded in death by his father, George; sister Debra Fangmeier and infant sister Christine Coordsen. Kevin is survived by his mother Janice of Gilead; sister Valerie Goebel and husband Brice of Marion, KS; brother-in-law David Fangmeier of Hebron; nephews Joshua Fangmeier of Saint Paul, MN, Caleb Fangmeier of Lincoln, and Dylan Goebel of Marion, KS; nieces Rachael Lennemann and husband Kirk of Riverton and Kaitlyn Goebel of Marion, KS; aunts Gloria Reinboth of Deshler, Meta Fegter of Deshler, Marjorie Coordsen of Gilead, and Helen Fegter of Fairbury; along with many adored cousins and countless friends.
