Landon Reid Livingston

Landon (Captain) Reid Livingston was born in Fairbury, Nebraska on July 15, 1992 to Lanny and Patricia Livingston of Mahaska, Kansas.  He was their third child. He died on October 18, 2021 in Grand View, Missouri. He was baptized at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Landon attended North Central Elementary schools and then Washington County High School. Later, he transferred to Fairbury High School where he graduated in 2011.  After high school, Landon earned a music scholarship and attended Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, Kansas where in 2016, he received a Bachelor’s degree  in Music Performance and a minor in Communications.

Sports and 4-H were a big  part of Landon’s growing up years.  He was a ten-year member of the Mahaska Merry Makers 4-H Club serving as club president for many years. He participated in many projects and won numerous awards.

He attended the Lions Club Band camps and numerous band camps at Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS.  He was very proud of being first chair section leader at the Nebraska Music Educators Association concert.  Landon also received Class B All State Music honors and he received the John Phillip Sousa award which is given to an outstanding music performer high school student. Motivating others to have school spirit was important to Landon. In his senior year, his vibrant school spirit made him the recipient of an award never before given:  “Fan of the Year”.  This award has become an annual tradition at Fairbury High School.

Landon loved music of all kinds, especially his favorite band, Mötley Crüe .  He enjoyed playing  the drums for many years for several different bands including Serotonin, Common Ground, Jaron Bell, Mahan, and Mother Tung.   He also played with the 9:50 Band at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Salina for six plus years.

He shared his fun-loving personality with a huge friend base.  Landon so looked forward to doing concerts and gigs. He loved to be behind his drums; he lived to make every moment BIG, including dressing to fit the occasion even if it meant wearing a dress or a Meatloaf costume.

Besides music, he spent considerable hours volunteering in various ways.  He worked with the Miss Jeff Pageant and raised more money for cancer than in the history of the pageant.  He also truly believed in the veterans cause and did volunteer activities for them.

Landon farmed beside his father and also appreciated working  for Jim Cerny.  Jim’s confidence in Landon by allowing him to farm his land was very important to him because Jim followed Landon’s career and was also very supportive of his music career.

In January, he moved to Kansas City to be closer to performances, gigs and  musical opportunities. While pursuing his love of music, he worked at High Prairie Landscaping in Mission, KS.

Survivors are  his parents, Lanny and Patricia Livingston, Mahaska, Ks, sisters, Jill McCord and her husband, Matt; and Tami Haverkamp and her husband, Brent; nieces Taryn Arnold, Karly McCord, Sondra McCord and Bella Haverkamp;  and nephews, Trevin Arnold, Thorne Bachle, and Baxter Haverkamp.  He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Preceding him in death are his grandparents, Ronald and Phyllis Livingston,  Ed and Patricia Miller Bartels, and special friends Allison Huffman and Colton Snook.

Services for Landon will be held Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the United Methodist Church in Fairbury, Nebraska.  Inurnment will be in the Mahaska Cemetery, Mahaska, Ks.  Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury, NE is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made for the Mahaska Community Center or the Landon Livingston Music Scholarship or Mental Health Research - to be determined later in care of the Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home.
