Larry J. Hauschel passed away July 25, 2021, at the Heritage Care Center, Fairbury, Nebraska at the age of 79 years. He was born December 19, 1941 to Joseph A. and Hilda (Miller) Hauschel in Fairbury, Nebraska. Larry attended Huffine country school, Morrowville Rural High School and Fairbury Junior College. In 1961 he married Marcella “Kay” Conrad. To this union they had four children.
Larry was a man of family, faith, and agriculture that led him down many different avenues in life. Through the years he was employed through the USDA as a Meat Inspector, Fairbury Livestock and Washington Livestock as a yard worker, and a seed dealer all while being a lifelong farmer and rancher. Throughout his life he was called and held many titles but the name he was most fond of was “Papa.” He loved to be with his grandchildren. He would light up when they came in the room. He would often be seen attending birthday parties, counting cows with them, attending ball games, shows, and other school activities.
Community service was also important to Larry. He was a member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, St. Peter & Paul Parish Council and Finance Committee, St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, North Central USD 221 School District Board, where he served as the President, Lowe Township Trustee, Farmers Coop Board Member, where he served as Secretary, and he was a 4-H Leader.
Larry was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, parents, parents in law Jack and Virgina Conrad, and sister-in-law Becky Larsen. He is survived by his beloved children Rick (Lana) Hauschel of Valley Falls, KS, Micki (Pat) Meenen of Hiawatha, KS, Tom (Shelly) Hauschel of Urbandale, IA, and Jacki (Travis) Zabokrtsky of Morrowville, KS, ten grandchildren Lauren (Matt) King, Reba Hauschel (Karl Law), Ashli (Ricardo) Melon, Kyle (Shelby) Meenen, Shane (Emily) Meenen, Jake (Tami) Hauschel, Cody Hauschel, Micaela (Reid) Brooke, Tori Zabokrtsky, Tray Zabokrtsky, twelve great-grandchildren, brother Gary (Kay) Hauschel, brothers in law John (Lina) Conrad and John (Jorena) Larsen, nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
Services will be held Saturday, July 31 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Fairbury, NE with Father John Birkel officiating. A rosary service will be held at the Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home Friday July 30, 2021, at 6:15 p.m. The family will greet friends following the rosary from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to the Morrowville Fire Department and the Washington County FFA Alumni Association. Burial in the Fairbury Cemetery.
