Larry Joe Troxel

July 29, 1937 — November 27, 2020

Larry Joe Troxel, age 83, of Fairbury, passed away November 27, 2020 at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln. He was born in Fairbury on July 29, 1937 to Homer and Lorraine (Eden) Troxel. He attended grade school in Fairbury and Endicott and his summers were spent developing lifelong work ethics on his grandparent’s farm until eighth grade graduation. Larry attended Endicott High School until his senior year, when he at age 18, joined the US Army. Following two years of active duty service, he served in the Army reserve for four years.

Larry was united in marriage to his wife of 60 years, Jan Criner, on May 1, 1960. To this union they were blessed with three children.

Larry worked five years for the Diller Telephone Company and spent the following five years working as a diesel mechanic for the Massey Ferguson Company in Fairbury. Larry spent the next 32 years with Norris Public Power District as a Chief Area Serviceman, retiring in 1999. Retirement didn’t agree with him, so he worked 10 more years for Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home.

During semi-retirement, he spent countless hours assisting people with electrical projects and has always been willing to help anyone at any time there was a need. Larry was active in the Endicott Methodist Church, especially with Lord’s Acre Day and serving on various committees for over 50 years. He attributed the fact that he enjoyed most every day of his life being able to help others.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Jerry and Lloyd, sister, Barbara Lamb, sister-in-law Patti Troxel, mother-in-law and father-in-law, George and Leona Criner and brother-in-law Dallas Criner.

He is survived by his loving wife Jan Troxel, daughter and son-in-law Lori and Jim Phelps, son and daughter-in-law Todd and Holly Troxel all of Fairbury, daughter and son-in-law Jodi and John Devonshire of Columbus, GA, granddaughters Cheza Troxel and boyfriend Austin Mazour of Davenport, McKenna Troxel of Beatrice, and Jazz & Lee Devonshire of Columbus, GA. Also surviving are brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Don and Connie Criner of Gillette, WY, Delbert and Eileen Criner of Scottsbluff, sisters-in-law Beverly Troxel of Hastings, Jan Criner of Scottsbluff and brother-in-law John Lamb of Smiths Station, AL, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other family and friends.
