LaVerne was born at home on February 20, 1926. She was the first child of William and Anna (Reinwald) Milius. She was baptized into the Kingdom of God by Pastor A.C. Guelker at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Daykin, Nebraska. She was instructed and confessed her faith in the rite of confirmation on the 25th of June, 1939 by Pastor O. R. Heinitz of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Daykin, Nebraska. Her confirmation verse was Hebrews 13 verse 5 “. . . be content with what you have, for He has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” LaVerne went to elementary school for eleven years at District 24, Helvey, Nebraska. She completed her Junior & Senior years at Fairbury Public Schools, Fairbury, Nebraska, graduating in 1942. Upon graduating, she applied for and received a State of Nebraska Normal Elementary School Teaching Certificate. She taught for 3 years. LaVerne met Eldo (her future husband) at a church function at Grace Lutheran in Fairbury, Nebraska. They were joined in marriage on February 3, 1946 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Daykin. To this union four children were born: Dennis Dean, Joyce Jeanette, David Douglas, Jana Lynn. They lived on the farm East of Immanuel Lutheran Church until 1957. The family moved to a farm north of Western, Nebraska and lived there until 1976. They built a new home on the farm where LaVerne was raised, which is located one mile north of Immanuel Lutheran Church. They lived there until they retired to Fairbury in 2015. For two years they resided at Cedarwood Assisted Living and then moved to Heritage Care Center. During their 74 years of marriage LaVerne enjoyed raising her children and going to their school events, baking, tending her chickens, working in her large garden, and making quilts. She loved hosting all of the family holiday events and being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was active in Lutheran Ladies Aid, and several Jefferson County Extension Clubs. LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, William and Anna, her son Dennis Bartels, great grandson Christian Paul, 1 brother, Leo Milius, 3 brothers in law and 9 sisters in law. She is survived by two daughters Joyce (Mike) Paul, Jana (David) Kohrell, son David (Kathy) Bartels, daughter-in-law, Nylene Bartels. LaVerne is also survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren *Chera Wenzl (Aric) sons Myles and Lukas, *Chris Bartels (Candice) daughter Chaeyoung, *Lori Hill (John) daughter Lynae Johnson (Michael), *Lisa Scheele daughters Amber Schultz (Josh), Alyssa, Ashley Meyer (John), *Ryan Paul (Lisa) sons Connor, Corin daughters Kailyn, Kelsi, Kwinn, *Rhett Paul sons R.J., Fenton, *Rodd Paul (Nancy) sons Wyatt, Warren, daughters Adelia, Mariah, *Laci Loosbrock (Wade) son Hudson, *Jacqueline Huls (Steve) sons Jackson, Coby, Cooper, *Adam Bartels (Katie), *Kera Barber and *Kody Barber. During her lifetime LaVerne also had 35 nieces and nephews that she loved very much.
Services will be Monday, March 8, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church - Daykin, NE. The family will greet friends at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 - 4. Memorials have been established to the Immanuel Lutheran Church & Cemetery - Daykin.
