Lavon M. Mason

April 23, 1920 — August 17, 2021

LaVon Mae (Justis) Mason was born April 23, 1920 to George Vernon and Ada (Davis) Justis in Hollenberg, KS. She died August 17, 2021, at Gardenside LTC. LaVon was the oldest of 6 children. LaVon was baptized and confirmed on January 2, 1929. She was a 72-year member of First United Presbyterian Church in Fairbury. She attended Hollenberg High School and graduated with the Class of 1938.

She was united in marriage to Lewis Mason. They had a daughter, Bonice. They later divorced. LaVon worked as a sales-clerk and Office Manager at J. C. Penneys. She also worked at The Pantry Grocery Store and Shipman Jewelry.

She helped Bonice raise her daughter, Tracy. Tracy died in 1972. LaVon and Bonice spent the following years traveling and collecting. Bonice died in July of 2018. LaVon remained in their home until entering Gardenside LTC in June of 2019. She enjoyed her time at Gardenside. She enjoyed the staff and activities. She continued reading the Lincoln Journal Star and following all of the Husker teams.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her 5 siblings, Arlene, George Jr., Joann, Jean and Joyce. Her daughter, Bonice and granddaughter Tracy.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and friends Debbie, Jeff and Karen.

There will be a graveside service on Monday, August 23, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at the Fairbury Cemetery. A celebration of life is being planned for next spring. Memorials will be given to 5 Star Bible Camp or First United Presbyterian Church, Fairbury.
