Lester R. Boyd, 91 of Fairbury, NE, died March 24, 2015 at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury. He was born May 25, 1923 to Alfred R. and Alta M (Matheny) Boyd at Reynolds, Nebraska.
Lester's Aunt took him to the Methodist Church in Hubbell while he was growing up in Reynolds, NE. He enjoyed playing cards and going fishing.
He attended one year of college before going into the service. He served at North Hampton, England, close to where his ancestors had come from.
Lester served in the Army/Air Force for 3 years. He completed 35 Mission tours while in the service as a tail gunner. When asked if he was frightened during these missions, Lester replied, "we just didn't think too much about them at the time."
Survivors are brothers Otis Boyd of Hebron, Alfred Boyd of Chesapeake, VA, sister Irene Baloun of York, 3 Grandchildren and several nieces & nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons David and Randall, wives Della, Helen and Eva, brothers Wayne & Floyd, and sisters Juanita, Wanda, Katie and Violet.
Services will be Wednesday April 1, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home Chapel with Darlene Novotny officiating. Burial will be in Rose Creek Cemetery at Reynolds, NE. Memorials will go to the Family’s Choice. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
