Linda Kay Saltzman-Zuehlsdorf, was born to Richard and Cora Verlene Saltzman on April 19,1947. She grew up in Deshler, Nebraska, where she graduated high school in 1965. In January of 1966, she married her sweetheart, Bill Zuehlsdorf. They had a son named Daniel Richard in 1967. In July of 1968, her husband was killed while in Vietnam in the Marine Corps. She was devastated and never remarried.
Linda was somewhat of a jack-of-all-trades, working many different types of jobs in her lifetime including a lab technician, hotel desk clerk, and casino cashier. She attended college at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln for a short time during the mid-seventies. It was when she later became employed full-time as a caregiver, first in San Francisco, CA, then Kansas City, MO, where she seemed to
find her niche. Caring for the elderly was something she found enjoyable.
If she joked around with you, you knew she liked you. Her sense of humor was there almost until the end. Years ago, she became interested in astrology. She read books and books about it and was known to ask her friends and family if she could “do their astrological chart.”
She spent eight years in Kansas City, and in 2000 returned to the San Francisco area to be with her son and his family. While back in California, she formed a loving bond with her granddaughter Summer and grandson Tanner. In 2004, she
was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. When her living arrangements changed in 2016, she moved to Topeka, KS to be with her sister, Jill Lewis and husband Gary. Linda was able to get along fairly well until 2018, when her illnesses became too much to handle, and she began her stay at Tanglewood Health and Rehabilitation in Topeka. She did fine there for the most part, making friends with the
patients and staff. They let her leave with family to go out to dinner on occasion, which made her happy, and the family visits at Christmas and other times were good for her, too. When the pandemic hit, no one was allowed to come into Tanglewood for obvious reasons. During that time, she unfortunately experienced falls and infections that made her condition worsen. On August 29, 2020, Linda Kay Saltzman-Zuehlsdorf was called home by the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Tim Saltzman, daughter-in-law Karen Zuehlsdorf, and niece Rachel Thompson. She is survived
by her son, Danny, grandchildren Summer and Tanner Zuehlsdorf, sister Jill (Gary) Lewis, brother-in-law Bob (Linda) Zuehlsdorf, sisters-in-law Linda Fay Dudgeon
and Joyce (Mike) Medina, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Linda Kay Zuehlsdorf’s name may be given to the NE Kansas Parkinson Association, PO Box 67342, Topeka, KS 66667-
0342.
