Loren L. Ebke

Loren L. Ebke, 83, of Fairbury, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2018. He was born on a farm near DeWitt, NE on November 25, 1934 to Carl and Martha (Drees) Ebke. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Wilber, NE on December 16, 1934. He was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jansen, NE by Pastor Vogel, on October 3, 1948.
Loren graduated from Diller High School in 1952 and served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956, being stationed in Alaska. He married Barb (Krause), his wife of 60 years, on September 15, 1957 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jansen, NE. He then graduated from Kearney State College with a Business Degree in 1972. He farmed near Venango, NE, managed the Capri Motel in Fairbury, and then did professional cleaning with ServiceMaster.
Reading was Loren’s favorite hobby in addition to traveling throughout Nebraska visiting and taking pictures in every town, State Park and Courthouse in the state. He and Barb also enjoyed hiking and dancing (polkas) and visiting numerous military bases, including Germany, where their children were stationed.
Over the years, Loren served the church in various roles, such as, teaching Sunday school, serving as an Elder, Secretary, Trustee and Janitor.
Surviving family includes, wife, Barb of Fairbury; son, David of Hebron, NE and daughter, Mary Ann (Welton) of Augusta, GA. Grandchildren, Yvonne (Rob) Schlichtman, of Diller, NE; Andrew (Amanda) Ebke, of Fairbury, NE; Brandon Chase, of Daytona Beach, FL and Megan Chase, of Manhattan, NY. Great Grandchildren, Mason Schlichtman and Oakley Ebke and Brother-in-law Duane (Betty) Krause of Tecumseh, NE, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Don (Shirley) Ebke; Orville (Phyllis) Ebke.
Services are at 2:00 pm Saturday June 9, 2018 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury. The family will greet friends Friday June 8 ^th from 6 to 8 pm at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury. In lieu of flowers & plants, memorials designated to Lutheran Hour, Missions.
