Loren W. Wieden

Loren W. Wieden, 89 years of age, of Odell, NE passed away on January 24, 2019 at Beatrice Health & Rehab.  He was born on December 13 ^th 1929 to William & Martha (Cordsen) Wieden in Lanham, KS.

The family later moved to Odell, NE where Loren graduated from Odell High School in 1947.  He worked at Dempster Mill Manufacturing in Beatrice until 1950 when he enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed in South Korea from 1953-54.  He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant while in the service.

On August 17 ^th of 1958 he was joined in marriage to Shirley Sohl at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Odell where they remained faithful members.  To this union 3 daughters were born.

He was assistant Business Agent for United Brotherhood of Carpenters Local 1055 in Lincoln, NE for 15 years until he and Shirley purchased the Village Pantry Grocery in Odell in 1979. They operated it for 20 years until retiring in 1989.  He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 231 at Odell.

In his later years Loren enjoyed drinking coffee and trading stories at the coffee shop in Odell, and spending time with family and telling them stories.

Survivors are daughters Catherine (Ron) Bures of Odell Debora Minge of Beatrice, son-in-law Jack May of North Zulch, TX, 4 grandchildren Andrea (Robert) Johnson, TX, Courtney (Ben) Scott, Odell, Whitney (Mitchell) Meyer of Hanover, Samantha (Jason) Siems of Beatrice, 4 great-grandchildren Bell, Emma & Anna Johnson, Boyd Meyer, sister Dorothy (Mike) Harlan of Diller and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents William & Martha (Cordsen) Wieden, wife Shirley, daughter Brenda May, grandson Justin May and brothers Hank, Melvin (Short) & William (Whitey).

Services will be Monday, January 28, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Odell with Pastor Greg Stuckwisch officiating.  The family will greet friends at the Vance-Gerdes Funeral Home in Odell from 2 – 4 p.m. on Sunday.  Vance-Gerdes Funeral Home in Odell is in charge of arrangements.
