Lorraine A Roebke

October 11, 1931 — January 3, 2017

Lorraine Alene Roebke was born the last of five children to Henry and Louise (Reetz) Nolte on October 11, 1931, on the farm near Western, Nebraska, and met her Savior on January 3, 2017 at Fairbury, Nebraska.

Lorraine was a true daughter of Zion; she was baptized, educated at the Lutheran school to the 8th grade, confirmed, married, eulogized, and will be laid to rest at Zion Lutheran Church, Tobias, NE.

Lorraine graduated high school from Daykin. She attended Peru State College earning a degree to allow her to teach core subjects for grades K-8. After her first year of teaching, she attended a summer session at Concordia College allowing her to teach religion to those same students. She taught 2 years at Immanuel Lutheran Church (Middle Creek) at Garland, NE. where she met Melvin Roebke. Lorraine worked at Elgin Watches in Lincoln for a year while Melvin served in Korea. They married June 15, 1953, living a short time in Colorado Springs before moving to Seward for two years to farm rented ground. In 1955 they moved to Daykin to farm, but moved to town in 1966 when Melvin took a job with Schweer Hardware. In their early married life, Lorraine served as farm wife, but she worked as secretary/bookkeeper at Farmers’ Coop Elevator after the family moved from the farm into Daykin. Prior to her 1996 retirement, she worked at Swingster Factory. She lived 5 years in Lincoln following the sale of her home in 2009, but happily returned to the Daykin area when her health declined.

Together Melvin and Lorraine reared five daughters. She enjoyed sewing look-alike dresses for her young daughters and later creating quilts for her adult daughters and her grandchildren. Later she embroidered many a towel and crocheted items as gifts for others. Lorraine was an avid gardener, raising and preserving food for the family. She also loved her flower beds, knowing from whom she had received each flower, and passing on her love for them to each of her daughters. She loved to bake bread and rolls, pies, and cookies to feed her family as they grew, and later, her sons-in-law, and her grandchildren. Lorraine rejoiced in family, both immediate and far-removed, as a special gift of God.

Missing her, but celebrating her heavenly ascension include 5 daughters: Chyrel and Rod Remmers of Madison, NE; Charlene and Randy Wilcox of Lincoln; Brenda Connell and fiancé Jeremy Roggasch of Ainsworth; Mary Lou and Verlin Janzen of Hutchinson, KS; Charlotte and Dale Scott of Lincoln. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters-in-law, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her brothers Orville and Delmar and sisters Dorien and Opal; 4 brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Friday January 6, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church-Tobias, NE., with Pastor Ryan Meyer officiating. The family will greet friends Thursday January 5th from 6 to 8 pm at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury. Memorials to the Church. Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery-Tobias, NE.
