Lowell D. Buchli

Lowell Dee Buchli passed away surrounded by his loving family at the Heritage Care Center on July 19th in Fairbury, Nebraska, at the age of 90 years, 8 months, 19 days. Lowell was born on November 20, 1935, three minutes before his identical twin brother, Jewell, in Fairbury, to Paul and Grace Buchli. He was baptized and remained a lifelong member of the Alexandria Presbyterian Church. He attended District #10 until 8th grade and then graduated from Alexandria High School in 1953. Lowell served in the Army National Guard for 8 years from 1955-1963 and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad from 1956 to 1959. On April 5, 1958, Lowell married his sweetheart, Shirley Gaston, and they were blessed with 68 years of marriage, 4 children, 11 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

Lowell farmed with his brothers, Jewell and Jack, and in 1966 they opened Buchli Implement, an Allis-Chalmers dealership, in Hebron, NE. They continued the business together until 1983, when the brothers decided to farm full-time, and Lowell, Shirley, and their son, Gregg, created Buchli and Son Implement. They eventually expanded the business with another location in Sutton, NE. Lowell continued to farm and raise cattle during this time. Lowell was a volunteer firefighter for 18 years for the Alexandria Fire Department. Lowell loved hunting, fishing, gardening, camping, and traveling. He hunted deer and elk with family and friends. Lowell and Shirley went on many hunting trips with their friends, Mike and Kathy Richardson. He was known for his enormous gardens and loved to share the produce with family and friends. Lowell and Shirley loved to camp and travel and earned trips through the dealership to Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, the Caribbean, Germany, Italy, and Spain. They enjoyed wintering in Texas with Darrel and Renie Jurgena, and later with Judy and Gary Wright, for many years. Lowell enjoyed fishing in the Gulf with Darrel and had many stories to tell. After they retired from the business, Lowell continued to help Gregg on the farm until 2023. Lowell was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He always enjoyed visiting with everyone he met and will be greatly missed.

Lowell is survived by his wife, Shirley, their children, Gregory Dee (Marlene) Buchli of Alexandria; Geri (Brad) Roesler of Tobias; Cindy (Kent) Garber of Fairbury; and Angela (Glenn) Ginalick of Monticello, IL; grandchildren, Michael (Trisha) Buchli, Jason Dee (Ashley) Buchli, Chelsea (Darin) Engle, Shane (Katie) Roesler, Kendan Garber, Kellan (Shelby) Garber, Kacy (Parker) Jones, Grant (Stephanie) Ginalick, Dylan Ginalick; great grandchildren, Sophie, Caprice, Ava, Ella Dee, Judson, Abel, Aubree, Easton, Bailee, Rhett, Colt, Banks, Jameson, Renleigh, Eleanor; sisters, Glorine Joe, Sharon Jurgena, and Pamela (Ron) Lancaster, brothers, Jack Buchli and Ted (Kandy) Buchli, brother-in-law, Lyle (Dianne) Gaston, sister-in-law, Judy (Gary) Wright, and many nieces and nephews and relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Grace Buchli; his in-laws, Judson and June Gaston; granddaughter, Jill Marie Roesler; twin brother, Jewell; brothers-in-law, Harley Joe, Harvey Jurgena, Tom Gaston; sisters-in-law, Margaret Buchli, Glenda Gaston, and Bonnie Buchli; and nephew, Steven Wright.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the First United Presbyterian Church of Fairbury with Lana Likens officiating. No visitation will be held.

A luncheon will be held at the church following the service. Committal services with military honors will follow at 1 p.m. at Alexandria Public Cemetery in Alexandria, Nebraska.

Memorials are suggested to the family for designation at a later date.
