Lucinda Lee Janssen passed-away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at 4:25pm. She was born on September 7, 1934, to Keith and Blanche Lucille Knittle, in Belle, California.
Lucinda had three sisters and one brother: Nancy Joyce Knittle-Roland, Carolyn Brown-Roland, Claudette Brown-Martin, and Robert Brown. Lucinda is the last of her family to be deceased.
Lucinda graduated from Fairbury High School in 1953, worked for Russell Stover Candy in Lincoln, and later a sewing factory elsewhere.
Lucinda married Leonard Orville Roland, and they had seven children: Leonard Orville Roland Jr., Leona Lorraine, Londa Lucille, Linda Ladiene, Lester Keith, Larry Lacon, and Lee Larae.
Lucinda stayed busy with her seven children, art talent, and genealogy. She served on a community committee for school, stayed involved with PTA, and later joined the National Society - DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), being the Quivera Chapter Regent for the Fairbury area.
Lucinda’s art was frequently featured in the Fairbury Journal News and shown during several surrounding county fairs. She belonged to the ANAC (Association of Nebraska Art Clubs), the Jefferson County Art Club, Inc., and the Jefferson County Art Guild.
In 1982, Lucinda graduated as an Honor Student (3.8 grade point average) from Southeast Community College – as a legal secretary with an Associate of Applied Science Degree,
Lucinda married Maurice Franklin Janssen on January 24, 1988, and together they enjoyed art, as well as teaching Sunday-School at the Faith Lutheran Church in Fairbury. Lucinda and Maurice were featured in the FJN for being in the National Top 100 Sunday School Teachers of the year (2002-2003).
Lucinda retired from Walmart in Fairbury after serving 17 years.
Lucinda has several grand-children and great-grand-children, however none live locally, as well as her surviving children.
Graveside services will be Monday, November 23, 2020 at 1:00 at the Fairbury Cemetery. Masks recommended. Viewing will be Sunday from 1 - 9 at the Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home. Masks required indoors.
