Lydia Schanze Dragoo was born March 19, 1920 on the family farm east of Fairbury, NE to Fred & Louise (Becker) Schanze. She went to live with her heavenly Father at the age of 91 on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Bryan Medical Center West in Lincoln, NE.
She was married to Charles Elwin “Tuffy” Dragoo of Mahaska KS.
After working at Junker Grocery, J C Penney Co & Montgomery Wards, she made her career as a dental assistant with Dr Miles Banks in Fairbury Neb. She worked for Dr Banks for 28 years before retiring.
She was a member of the Mahaska Presbyterian Church, where she served twice as Elder. She was also a City Councilwomen for the City of Mahaska.
She will be remembered for her love of the outdoors, which was seen by her lovely yard, flowers & garden. When she couldn’t get outside she loved to work Word-Search puzzles.
Preceding her in death were her husband Tuffy, sister Marty Thrap, brother Harvey Schanze & half brothers John & Walt Kleeman.
She is survived by son Lyle & daughter-in-law Jeanne Dragoo, granddaughters Robbin Dixon & husband Ron and SanDee Dragoo all of Tulsa, OK. Also “adopted” granddaughter Amanda Mai of Fairview KS, sisters Elsie Junker of Fairbury NE and Katie & husband Max Melvin of Colby Ks, sisters-in-law Doris Dragoo & Carol Dragoo of Fairbury NE and many nephews & nieces.
Services will be 10:30 am Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Mahaska Presbyterian Church, Mahaska KS with Pastor Phil Goombi officiating. Burial will be in the Mahaska Cemetery. Memorials to the Mahaska Presbyterian Church. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home, PO Box 15, Fairbury, NE 68352.
