Lylice M. Schmidt

Lylice Marie (Busch) Schmidt, 92, passed on to her heavenly home December 14, 2019 in Fairbury, NE. She was born June 30, 1927 in Hallam, NE to Louis and Maude Busch. She graduated from Hallam High School and attended the University of Nebraska. She earned a teaching certificate and began her career at age 17. She taught in a one room school house near Clatonia, NE then moved to Daykin, NE as a teacher at the elementary school. She also taught music at the school and piano at home.

She married Gerhard Schmidt of Daykin in 1948. They lived on the family farm east of Daykin until 1975 and relocated to Fairbury for the next 44 years. She spent her last year at Cedarwood Assisted Living in Fairbury.

She was an accomplished pianist and an organist for Immanuel Lutheran Church, Daykin, where she also sang and directed adult and children choirs. She worked in the County Offices of Superintendent, Treasurer, and in the County Court from 1975-1986 retiring as Clerk of the County Court. She was involved in numerous community and church organizations. She always enjoyed time with family, especially that precious time with grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lylice was preceded in death by her parents and husband Gerhard. Sisters: Norma Lahm, Fern Koehler, Laurene Busch and Leola Clare and brother Harlan Busch.

She is survived by her daughter Lynette (Dr. Hal) Copple of South Carolina and son Dwight (Barbara) Schmidt of Fairbury and sister, Rojean Bowman (Sonny) of Martel.

Grandchildren: Nicole Copple VandeGarde (Blake), Cindy Lake Reilly (Tim), Daniel Schmidt (Carol), Christopher Copple (Stephanie), Kimberly Lake Goracke (Steve) and Rebecca Copple and 12 great grandchildren.

Family visitation will be Thursday evening, December 19, 6-8 PM at Gerdes Meyer Funeral Home, 2414 H Street, Fairbury, NE. Burial will be December 20, 9:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Daykin, NE. A celebration of life service will be December 20, 11 AM at Grace Lutheran Church, 1100 G Street, Fairbury, NE. Memorials donations to Grace Lutheran Church and Cedarwood Assisted Living in Fairbury.
