Lynn D. Scheets

Lynn Dale Scheets was born May 26, 1952 in Lebanon, Missouri to Loren and Alene (Tracy) Scheets.  He was the fourth of five children.  He passed away after a brief battle with cancer, Saturday, May 15, 2021.  He grew up in Kansas City, Kansas.  Lynn attended Washington High School in Kansas City.  He worked as a gas station attendant where he met his high school sweetheart.  He married Diana Trimble June 6,1970.  To this union they were blessed with three beautiful daughters: Bridget, Christina and Sarah.  Lynn worked in a factory as a young father until enlisting in the Army during Vietnam.  Lynn entered the Army July 10, 1972.  He went through basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.    He worked as target acquisition with the radar units.  He also worked as a driver for the General and other dignitaries while stationed in Germany.  He was stationed in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, Camp Herzo, Germany and Ft Sill, Oklahoma.  After serving three years he moved back to Kansas City with his family.  He tried going back to factory work but one day he told Diana that he was going to buy a truck.  Well, little did she know but their lives were about to drastically change, when he came home with a cabover semi truck.  Lynn “Wolfman” then became an owner operator over the road driver, which he did for the next twenty five years.  He leased on with Tollie Freightways, OTR Express and All Freight over the years.  He also hauled cars for a while and it was the highlight of the neighborhood to see if he would unload an old classic car or a brand new Lamborghini when passing through KC.  He made it to 47 states over those years and made thousands of friends.  He might not have remembered your name but he never forgot a face.  The road took a toll on his body and his family life.  He and Diana divorced in 1994.  He then moved to Kincaid, Kansas.  He stayed driving truck.  One day he walked into a truck stop he normally did not stop in and met a young blonde cashier who he of course flirted with.  That free coffee was about to change his life like he never expected.   On April 1, 1999 he married the love of his life, Rena Vieselmeyer in Las Vegas, Nevada.  He always said that was his longest running April Fools prank.  Lynn and Rena were blessed to have four sons; Lynn Jr, Waylynn, Sonny and Wyatt.  Lynn retired from trucking in 2000.  The family moved to Friend, Nebraska where they owned Downtown Saloon.  Bartending was a perfect job for Lynn, to make more friends and to tell all the stories he had accumulated over the years.  In 2002 they moved to a farm near Davenport, Nebraska where Lynn enjoyed retirement “playing with cars”  He loved going to auctions and added to his many collections.  He also was a life long nascar fan.  The family went to several races over the years.  He also loved going to the races in Deshler.  Lynn bought his dream shop which luckily was connected to Rena’s dream home in Fairbury in 2010.  Lynn always had at least one project going on.  He also always had a soft spot for animals.  There was always four legged critters following him around.  Lynn always loved going to concerts and enjoyed taking the family to many of his favorites.    They also were blessed to have great neighbors who are very special friends.  Ron and Kim Thomas went with Lynn and Rena to several concerts, numerous bike trips, and many nights enjoying a few adult beverages in the shop.  Lynn made friends everywhere he went.  He will be dearly missed.

He was a member of the Friend American Legion and the Fairbury VFW.

Lynn is survived by his wife, Rena, Daughters and son in laws: Bridget and Pat Shipman, Leavenworth, Kansas, Christina and Scott Hankinson Sunrise Beach, Missouri and Sarah Dixon, Palm Coast, Florida.  Sons: Lynn Scheets Jr, Waylynn Scheets, Sonny Scheets and Wyatt Scheets of Fairbury.  Grandchildren Josh and Mikayla Myrick, Dilynn Scheets, Miranda Hankinson, Morgan Hankinson, Corey Thomas,  Cole Myrick, Hannah Hankinson and Drew Hankinson.  Great Grandchildren;  Caden and Emmett Myrick and Ivy Hankinson  Sister; Brenda Burns Linwood, Kansas  Mother In law Alice Vieselmeyer, Friend Nebraska, Brother in law Ray Vieselmeyer Provo, Utah, Hosts of other family who loved Lynn very much.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Alene Scheets, his brothers; Wayne Scheets and Doyle Scheets, Sister Helen Scheets, Father-in-Law, Jerry Vieselmeyer.

Services will be Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Countryside Church - Gladstone, NE.  The family will greet friends Wednesday evening from 6 - 7:30 at the funeral home.  Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
