Marcella “Kay” Catherine Conrad Hauschel passed away at her home on July 21, 2019 with her loving family by her side. She was born July 22, 1942 in Fairbury, Nebraska to Jack & Virginia Shane Conrad. She was the oldest of three children. Kay attended St. Michael’s Catholic School, graduated Fairbury Public High School and attended Southeast Community College. In 1961, she married Larry Hauschel at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Fairbury. For the majority of their married years they lived on the family farm north of Morrowville, Kansas where they raised their four children.
Kay was employed at Canning Trucking and J & N Elliott Construction, before finishing her working career at USD 221 and USD 108 School Districts. Kay was a member of Albia Card Club, Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Altar Society, Morrowville Unit, a 4-H Community Leader, Extension Council and volunteered at the Cougars Den. She also worked on the Election Board for many years.
Kay had many hobbies in life. These hobbies included quilting, reading, gardening, ice skating and spending time with her family. Her faith was the foundation for how she lived her life and raised her family. She was a devout Catholic who volunteered many years as a CCD teacher.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, sister Becky Larsen, and parents in law Joe & Hilda Hauschel. She is survived by husband Larry, sons Rick (Lana) Hauschel of Atchison, KS, Tom (Shelly) Hauschel of Urbandale, IA and daughters Micki (Pat) Meenen of Hiawatha, KS and Jacki (Travis) Zabokrtsky of Morrowville, KS, ten grandchildren Lauren (Matt) King, Reba Hauschel (Karl Law), Ashli Meenen, Kyle (Shelby) Meenen, Shane (Emily) Meenen, Jake (Tami) Hauschel, Cody Hauschel, Micaela (Reid) Brooke, Tori Zabokrtsky, Tray Zabokrtsky, nine great-grandchildren, brother John (Lina) Conrad, brother-in-law Gary (Kay) Hauschel, nieces, nephews and numerous friends.
Services will be Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. St. Augustine Catholic Church – Washington, KS with Father Joseph Keifer officiating. A Rosary will be held at the church Wednesday evening at 6:00. The family will greet friends following the Rosary from 7 - 9 p.m. at the church. All visitation will be at the church. Memorials have been established to Meadowlark Hospice, Morrowville Rural Fire Department or St. Augustine Catholic Church, Washington, Kansas. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
