Marcella May (Strunk) Harper, also known as Marcy, stepped peacefully into eternal life on January 20, 2021, while listening to her favorite old hymns at Gardenside Nursing Home. She was 86 years old.
Marcella was born on April 27, 1934, in Muscatine, Iowa, to Emil and Margaret (Vogt) Strunk. When she was two weeks old, her mother passed away and she came to Plymouth to live with her grandparents, Rev. Emil and Emma Vogt. When she was six years of age, she returned to live with her father, Emil Strunk, and his new wife, Hilda, on a farm north of Jansen.
On September 16, 1955, Marcella was united in marriage to Herman Gene Harper of Steele City. They spent most of their married life living in Omaha and were blessed with three daughters: Suzette May (Sue), Jeanette Kay (Jean), and Lynnette Renee (Lynne).
Marcella was preceded in death by her husband Herman, parents Emil and Hilda Strunk, daughter Lynnette (Mark) Williamson, brother Gerald Strunk, and also Herman’s parents Charles and Grace Harper and siblings Donald, Reva, James, and Doris.
She is survived by daughters Sue (Jerry) Prochaska of David City and Jean (Tim) Kuzon of Fairbury, several grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren; sisters Carolyn (Dale) English, Joyce (Clark) Curtiss, and Susie (Calvin) Weichel; brothers Larry (Linda) and Rick (Carol) Strunk; and Herman’s siblings Glenda (Doug) Spilker and Garry (Jo) Harper.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 25, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ (Cub Creek Church) at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. Masks are required for all services. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
