Marilyn Kay Seggerman

June 21, 1943 — August 7, 2023

Marilyn Kay Seggerman was born on June 21, 1943, in Fairbury, Nebraska to Lester and Pamelia (Regnier) Seggerman.  She grew up on the family farm 3 ½ miles northwest of Fairbury and was soon joined by her sister Betty, then her sister Patricia, and brother David.

Marilyn attended District 61, the rural school only a quarter mile from their home.  Marilyn and Betty started Kindergarten in 1949.  Although school was difficult for Marilyn, she attended school until she was 16 and learned to read, write, and was especially good at spelling.  Marilyn later lived in a group home in Crete to learn independent living skills.

At home Marilyn was a hard worker on the farm and especially enjoyed taking care of the chickens and gathering the eggs from their large flock of 300 laying hens.  She also helped with milking cows, pasteurizing cream, preparing cream and eggs for sale, and helping deliver their produce in Fairbury and to customers who visited at the farm.

In 1975 the family moved to a home on E Street in Fairbury, and Marilyn worked at the Swingster outlet store where she helped with sorting merchandise, sweeping, and straightening the display tables full of T-shirts, sweats, jackets, and other sporting items.

After her mother entered a nursing home, Marilyn had her own apartment at Parkview where she helped deliver Meals on Wheels for many years. Marilyn had helped deliver meals throughout Fairbury when her parents were able to drive her around  for deliveries.

Marilyn was awarded the Elderly Resident of the Year award from the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials.  The award was presented to Marilyn in North Platte, Nebraska on September 21, 2016. This was for her outstanding volunteer service.

Marilyn was truly grateful for all her friends at Parkview and enjoyed the coffee time, the Bingo nights, and visiting in the common area.

Marilyn was a member of the Fairbury Methodist Church from the time she was baptized as an infant, then confirmed in 1955 in the “old” church just before it was torn down to build the fellowship wing of the present church building.  One of her favorite things to do in serving her church was to deliver the Sunday School offering bags and attendance books each Sunday morning to the various classrooms and then collect them for the secretary.  She also attended meetings of United Methodist Women and helped when her mother served on kitchen committees.

Marilyn is survived by her sister Betty Jorgensen, her sister Patricia Allison, and her brother David (Mary) Seggerman; nieces and nephews Mike (Julie) Jorgensen, Beth (Alan) Sparrow, Tony (Robin) Allison, Tricia (Drew) Vocasek, Kristen (Tim) Kester, Jeremy (Kim) Seggerman, and Nathan (Andrea) Seggerman, and also Kaylene Allison (widow of Todd Allison).  She has 26 great nieces and nephews:  Matthew, Mark, Megan and Mitchell Jorgensen; Kirk and Atalissa Sparrow; Taylor, Cole, and Noah (Bridget) Allison; Tobin, Tarin, and Trevor Vocasek; Madison, Logan, Katelyn, Claire, and Leah Kester; Karley, Jordan, and Avery Seggerman; Daniel and Jacob Seggerman; and MaKenzie (Nate) Watson and baby Boone, Mitchell, Marshall and MaKayla Allison. She is also survived by extended family and many friends.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Lester and Pamelia Seggerman, two brothers-in-law, Francis Jorgensen and Ted Allison, nephew Todd Allison, and grandparents, Harry and Anna Seggerman and Roy and Katie Regnier.
