Marilyn Mae Shinn of Fairbury, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at the age of 85. Born June 9, 1936, to Louis and Olinda (Evers) Asche in Hebron, Nebraska. She married Everett Shinn at Grace Lutheran in Hebron, Nebraska on October 30, 1955. This past year Marilyn and Everett celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage. Marilyn enjoyed writing letters, gardening, canning, sewing, and spending time with family and friends. She adored doing activities with the church women’s group. Marilyn and Everett loved to travel and liked meeting new family in other states. Marilyn could often be found riding in the car with Everett, enjoying the nice weather from the swing in her garden, and dancing away the evening at many local venues and Saddle Clubs events.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and sister Shirley Bodtke. She is survived by her husband Everett and their sons, Gary Shinn (Cynthia) of Fairbury and Terry Shinn (Becky) of Wilber. Her grandchildren Ryan Deike (Paul) of Omaha, Johanna Shinn of Omaha, Jarrod Shinn (Kendall) of Central City, and Jennifer Hoepker (Alex) of Bartlett, and great-grandchildren Logan and Wyatt Deike, Emery Shinn, and Jayden and Jasper Hoepker. Her brother Ray Asche (Eilen) of Hebron, brother-in-law Melvin Bodtke, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation with the family will be held Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 6 to 8 pm. The memorial services are to be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Fairbury, Nebraska on September 3, 2021 at 1pm. Memorials will be donated to the Faith Lutheran Church and Women’s Missionary Fellowship (WMF). Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
