Obituary

MARILYN JEAN SNYDER of rural Fairbury died July 31st, 2026 at the age of 92. She was born September 15, 1933 to Chester Olin and Addie Marie Wagoner Iverson at Fairbury, Nebraska.

She graduated from Fairbury High School in 1951. She graduated from Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing in 1954 and worked at the Fairbury Clinic and Jefferson County Hospital, full and part time until 1972.

On September 26, 1954 she married John W. Snyder of Fairbury. They lived and farmed northeast of Fairbury.

Three children were born to them, Steven J, Sally K and Andrew W.

She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a long-time member of Country Home Extension Club. Marilyn helped with the Red Cross Bloodmobile and as an Election worker for many years.

Her hobbies were reading, dancing, baking, and gardening. Her freezer was always stocked with her delicious homemade cookies, and anyone who entered her home was offered some, usually several times. Her family was the most precious thing in her life and they all felt her great love for them.

Survivors include sons Steven Snyder and wife Patty; Andy Snyder and wife Toni of Fairbury, and daughter Sally Ewalt and husband Steve of Geneva.

Grandsons Alex Beckworth and wife Kristin of Lincoln; Aaron Snyder and fiancé Miranda Pratt; Kevin Snyder of Fairbury. Granddaughters Julianne Wilson and husband Lonnie of Okinawa Japan; Rachel Lindsay and husband John of Omaha; Michele Snyder and significant other Alex Siegler of Omaha and Kelsey Snyder of Kansas City, MO.

Great Grandchildren Lincoln, Iverson, Miriam, Penelope, Quinn and Tidwell Wilson and Jack Lindsay.

She was preceded in death by her husband John; her parents; husband’s parents Owen and Ruby Snyder; sister Virginia and husband Lawrence Sadil; brother Blaine Iverson and wife Gertrude. Sisters-in-law Elaine Hahn and husband Dale; Suzaine Roelfs and husband Dale.

The family will greet friends on Thursday August 6th from 5pm to 7pm at the Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 7th, 10:30 a.m. at the Methodist Church of Fairbury with Pastor Park officiating. Burial of cremains will be at the Fairbury Cemetery, following the service. Lunch will be served afterward. Memorials are to the Fairbury Methodist Church or Jefferson County Health and Life.
