Marjorie R. Hill

November 17, 1918 — January 23, 2015

Marjorie Ruth (Pleis) Hill was born November 17, 1918 on a farm east of Fairbury Nebraska to Adelaide (Coopich) and Fred Pleis, the second of seven children. She died January 23, 2015 at the age of 96.

Later the family moved to a farm near Gladstone, NE and she was baptized and confirmed at the Zion United Church of Christ near Gladstone. She attended rural schools and graduated from Fairbury High School. She married Jack E. Hill June 3, 1944. To this union five children were born.

Marj was involved in the medical profession, first working for Dr. Morgan at his hospital in Steele City, NE and wherever her husband's railroad work took him. She worked for many years at the Lynch Clinic and Dr. Falloon's practice as an X-Ray and Lab Technician. Most days saw her walking home from work as she never drove. Her love for children led her to becoming a foster Grandmother as "Grandma Marj" at Fairbury's Kids Connection School. She returned to Heritage Care Center as a resident where she was once was a nurse.

Surivors include sister Norma Jean Weisel of Butte, MT, brother Wendell (Gloria) of Lafayette, CA, children John (Betty) Hill of Galt, CA, Candice Kreis of Lincoln, NE, James (Aileen) Hill of Prior Lake, MN, Mark Hill of Seabring, FL. Grandchildren Amy Meyer of Wahoo, John Hill of Lincoln, Mary (Brandon) Riddle of CA, Kate (Chris) Thompson, Linda Shannon (Jayme Sanford), Jeff Hill, Elizabeth (Garret) Curtis of MN, Matthew Hill of MI and Taylor Hill of MN and Great-grandchildren, Caden Searcey, Kiaya Myers, Auric Myers, Avy Myers, Jake Riddle, Evan Riddle, Mason Riddle and Mackenzie Thompson.

Preceded in death by her parents, Sister Mavis Lloyd, brother Vernon Pleis, brother Jared Pleis, sister Elva Backer and their spouses. Brothers-in-law Ray Garcia and Dr. George Weisel, daughter-in-law Teresa Hill and infant daughter Jacqueline Hill.

Services were on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Gerdes-Meyer Chapel in Fairbury, with Darlene Novotny officiating. Memorials will go to the United Methodist Church & Juvenile Diabetes. The family greeted friends Tuesday evening, January 27th from 6-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury was in charge of arrangements.
