Marjorie Mae Lane

August 8, 1939 — February 27, 2023

Marjorie Mae (Simmons) Lane, 83, of Fairbury, passed away February 27, 2023 at Heritage Care Center in Fairbury. She was born August 8, 1939, in Vona, Colorado to Lloyd Joseph and Veda Mae (Riggle) Simmons. Marjorie was presented a wicker baby basket by the church ladies. That basket has held her brother, 2 sisters, her grandchildren and many family babies; most of which are written on the bottom.  As a baby, the family moved back to Kansas and lived in her Simmons Grandparents home before moving in to a box car made into a cozy home, just up the road. Grandma Mary would go get her in a buggy and take her home with her, and mom Veda would have to walk down to get her. At 2 ½ with little sister, Betty Elaine, they bought and moved into their home 2 ½ North of Tuma’s station where brother, Lonnie Lloyd and sister Estel Marie joined the family. Marge attended Dist. 44 Country school, just a mile from home; later she attended Reynolds school for 2 years.  She attended, loved, and graduated from Mahaska High School, class of ‘57.

November 9, 1960, she married Leo E. Huffman at the Mahaska Presbyterian Church. To this union 3 boys were born – Leo Edward Huffman II, Lyle Eugene Huffman, and Larry Frank Huffman.

December 5, 1981 she married Orlo Harold Lane, gaining 2 more sons – Dennis and Mike Lane.

Marge & Harold enjoyed traveling to Texas to visit Lyle & Janice; Missouri to visit Dennis & Jody & family, Mike and other relatives, along with fun places to see the USA; often with sisters and husband; Betty, Estel and Melvin.

Marge began her nursing career at Lynch Clinic, then JCHC in Fairbury.  Marge & Harold lived in KC for ten years where she earned her RN Degree while working in nursing homes there. Moving back to their home in Fairbury, she worked at Hebron nursing home and Gardenside in Fairbury, Blessed Angels at Heritage & Hospice.

Marge was preceded in death by granddaughter Allison Huffman; stepson Mike Lane; her parents Lloyd & Veda Simmons; brother & sister-in-law Lonnie & Alberta (Mason) Simmons; sister Betty Edwards & in-laws Robert Fikar, Ervin Jensen, Kenneth Edwards, Carl Lane, Ted Lane, Eugene Webster, Dorothy Yates, Rosie Schmidt, Reva Melton, Velma Prodince, Martha and baby Lillian, nephews Danny Vail, Clayton Edwards, and Mathew Pittman.
