Marjorie J. Strayer

November 18, 1926 — August 17, 2018

Marjorie Jean Strayer passed away Aug. 17 at Gardenside Long Term Care in Fairbury. She was a resident of  Cedarwood Assisted Living in  Fairbury.

She was born Nov. 18, 1926 on a farm near Mahaska Kan., the oldest daughter of James and Wilma (Lobaugh) Spradling. She attended Stephens and Bell rural schools and graduated from Mahaska  High School in 1944.

Marge and Halbert Ernest Strayer Jr. were married on April 11, 1946. They made their home in Fairbury.

For several years she was manager of the catalog department at JCPenney in

Fairbury. She was a member of the Fairbury First Presbyterian Church.

Some of her favorite things were flowers, butterflies, humming birds, rainbows, Nebraska rainbows, and Norman Rockwell paintings.

Her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 100: “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands.

Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.”

Marge was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ernest; her daughter, Linda Sand of Lincoln; her son, Kerry, of Kansas City, Missouri, sisters Beverly and husband Dale Flagle of Fairbury and Shirley and husband Melvin Ferris of Narka, Kan.

She is survived by sons Jim and wife Kay of Aurora, Neb., and Tom and wife Marion of

Grovetown, Ga.; grandchildren Staci Svendgard and husband Brady of Lincoln, Rene Sand of Denver; Matt Strayer and wife Manon of Omaha, Darcy Strayer and husband Jack Ehlers of Denver, and Jennifer and husband Lane Sorenson of Bloomington, Ind.; great grandchildren Anna Lunders of Lincoln and Morgan Lunders and husband Jay Deaton of Lincoln; great great grandchildren Juniper and Tuck Deaton of Lincoln, daughter-in-law Gailyn Strayer of K C, MO., son-in-law Donald Sand of Lincoln, NE.,several nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives.

A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 20, at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Fairbury, followed by a light lunch. Memorials can be sent to the church. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
