Marjorie A. (Terpening) Wilkinson, age 91, of Fairbury, NE died Sunday, March 25, 2018. She was born April 22, 1926 at the home of her grandparents in Fairbury, NE to William H. Terpening and Jesse Mabel (Harper) Terpening. She joined her family of five brothers in a little two roomed house on a farm just across the Kansas-Nebraska border.
She attended grade school in Washington County at the “Albia” school, graduating from Morrowville High School, and taught school briefly at Plainview Rural School after graduation.
She married her high school sweetheart Kent B. Wilkinson on November 18, 1944. Three daughters were born to them, Judy, Janet, and Julie. She was blessed with six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Family was always most important in her life.
Early married life was spent in Endicott, NE where they attended the Endicott Methodist Church. On May 15, 1959, Marjorie, Kent, and Judy were all baptized there as a family.
The Family moved to Fairbury in 1953.
Marjorie was an excellent cook and was adept at baking a couple of beautiful pies with what seemed like little effort. After her daughters got a little older, she began to work outside the home working at JC Penny, and then as a nurse’s aide at the Fairbury Clinic.
Marjorie was employed by the Fairbury Library in 1964 starting part-time in the children’s department and worked her way through a variety of positions to Fairbury Library Director; a twenty-six year affiliation. She was very proud of her work she did to get the addition built on to the library while preserving the beautiful Carnegie Library that is now on the National Registry of Historical Buildings.
Marjorie enjoyed reading herself and always enjoyed a laugh and a good card game with friends and family. She was a kind loving woman and had a great sense of humor, always welcoming extra people into the home. She has lived at the Heritage Care Center for the past two years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, her husband of 67 years, and her son-in-law Tom Hendrickson.
Left to mourn her absence are her three daughters, Judy Hendrickson, Janet Hall and fiancé Rod L’Heureux of Pender, NE, and Julie (Mike) Quinn, all of Lincoln, NE; six grandchildren, Lori (Mike) Fredrickson of Highlands Ranch, CO, Jill (Hubbard) Duranski of Lincoln, NE, Spencer (Tara) Hall of Bloomington, IN, Stephanie (Craig) Johnson of Lincoln, NE, Courtney (Mike) Kleffner of Wahoo, NE, and Chelsey Quinn of Lincoln, NE; eleven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and many others that loved her.
Services will be held at the Fairbury United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 31 at 10:30 am with Pastor Gail Cross officiating. Memorials in care of the family will be given to the Fairbury Public Library.
