Mary Jean Steinbrook was born May 2, 1947 at Fairbury, Nebraska and died in Lincoln, Nebraska November 23, 2025.
Mary was baptized in May of 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Daykin, Nebraska by Reverend Heintz. She grew up on the family farm 3 ½ miles south of Tobias. She and her parents (Leo and Elva Steinbrook) and older brother (Gordon Steinbrook) attended Zion Lutheran Church of rural Tobias. She attended and graduated from Zion Lutheran Parochial School and was confirmed on March 26, 1961, by Reverend Emmett Rogness. She graduated from Tobias High School and from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln with a degree in Business Teacher Education.
After graduation she moved to Illinois and taught secretarial classes in high school and at a secretarial college in Chicago. She moved to Iowa for a time and taught at a community college before moving back to Illinois. There she spent the rest of her working life in administration areas of several large Chicago corporations. Upon retirement she moved back to Lincoln, Nebraska to be close to family and friends.
Mary was an avid sports fan and while living in Chicago attended many Cubs and Bears games as well as enjoying sports on TV. She enjoyed playing the piano all her life and also sewed for fun.
Survivors include her brother, Gordon Steinbrook and his wife Frances of Columbus, Nebraska; nephew Lee Steinbrook and his wife Jessica of Lincoln and their four children; and nephew Scott Steinbrook and his wife Crystal of Kearney, Nebraska and their three children; and several cousins.
Preceding her in death were her parents Leo and Elva Steinbrook and her grandparents.
A memorial service will be held on December 2 at 1:00 pm at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury. Interment at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Tobias, Nebraska following services.
