Maureen Pavlik was born on May 17, 1939 to Andrew & Edith (Franzen) Leseberg at Rice Hospital in Odell, NE. during a severe dust storm. Maureen had one brother who is deceased. For her birthday they would have cake & sometimes ice cream. Her Grandpa & Grandma would always be there for her birthday & sometimes more of the family members would come.
Maureen lived in Lanham, KS.-NE. growing up & later moved to Odell, NE. She graduated from Odell High School & continued her education at Fairbury Junior College. Maureen then went on to Midland Lutheran College & received her degree in teaching. She was a teacher in a rural school for 6 years & then taught for 31 years in the Diller-Odell School system.
On August 15, 1965 Maureen married Ed Pavlik. They were blessed with one daughter, Judy & two sons, Jerry & John. Their grandchildren include three granddaughters & two grandsons.
Maureen was a Girl Scout leader for 35 years & a member of Girl Scouts of America for 41 years. She is a permanent member of the American Legion Auxiliary & a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She also belongs to the United Methodist Women & Odell United Methodist Church. She is an avid Husker fan & especially enjoyed the women’s volleyball & basketball, along with the men’s baseball games. She is also a KC Royals fan. Maureen really enjoys children, especially watching all the activities of her grandchildren. She likes listening to music, reading & baking (her favorite is banana bread & one pan brownies). For over 50 years she played the organ & piano at two different churches.
After Maureen retired, she & Ed took an Alaskan cruise & tour of Alaska. She enjoys going to Branson, MO. & Port Aransas, TX. Her “Bucket List” wish is to ride an airboat down the Platte River.
In 2000 she was honored with the “Friends of Children Award”, that was presented by the HAEYC.
Maureen & her husband attended the Odell United Methodist Church whenever they could. She has always been very active in her church, helping with luncheons & funeral services. Maureen states that her faith has been a very important part of her life, as she has relied upon it many times.
Maureen passed away June 19, 2014 at the Beatrice Hospital. Survivors are Husband Ed Pavlik of Beatrice, Daughter: Judy Flores & Husband Hugo of Omaha, Sons: John Pavlik of Blue Springs, Jerry Pavlik & wife Amy of Topeka, KS., 5 and Grandchildren.
She is preceded by her Parents & Brother Dennis.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday June 24, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Odell with Pastor Curt Magelky officiating. Visitation will be on Sunday & Monday from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home in Odell. The Family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday June 23 at the Funeral Home in Odell. Burial will be at the Odell Czech Cemetery. Vance-Gerdes Funeral Home in Odell is in charge of the arrangements.
