Aretha Maxine Mees, 87, died January 31, 2013. She was born November 7, 1925 at Red Cloud, Nebraska to Orville and Lillian “Mae” Wilmot Simpson.
At the age of 6 months her family moved to Endicott and later that year to Fairbury. Maxine started school at East Ward in Miss Isabella’s kindergarten class. She attended Fairbury schools and on June 11, 1943 she married Everett B. Mees at Jansen, Nebraska.
She retired after working many years first at the Lynch Hospital and then the Lynch Clinic. In 1991-1992 she was madam president of the Fairbury Eagles Auxiliary #3972.
She is survived by three children, Rosemary Junker, Randall Mees and his wife Lorlea, and Janice Coudeyras. Grandchildren and their families: Stacy Skosana and husband Sydney of Cathedral City, California, and their children, Tiyane, Amare and Quincy; Robert J. Mees and wife Jenny of Fairbury, and their children, Megan and Zachary; Aaron Coudeyras and Chastity Hinkle of Lincoln and their daughter Auvi; Autumn Zgambo and husband Mike of Lincoln and their daughter Maya.
She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Kathren Mees of Fairbury, Marian Weishahn and husband Richard of Beatrice, Nancy Simpson of Aurora, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.
Her parents preceded her in death, her husband Everett in 1981, her son Roger in 1992, and her brother Francis Simpson and sister Betty Landis also preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Fairbury with Pastor Joel Hahn officiating. Burial will be in the Fairbury Cemetery.
