Muriel Marie Hardy

August 27, 1910 — February 27, 2007

Muriel (Merle) Marie Hardy age 96 of Fairbury died on Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury. She was born on August 27, 1910 at Endicott, Nebraska the daughter of Thomas Arthur and Ina Mead Majors. She was a member of the Endicott United Methodist Church from
childhood. She graduated from Endicott High School in 1926 at age 15. After graduating from Peru State College with a teaching degree, she taught one year. Her choice of college was because of her grandfather Col. T.J. Majors, a founder. She married Howard Hardy in August of 1930 and started their life on a farm. Muriel was a leader in the 4-H for her girls, Nancy and Kay, and was active at the County Fair 4-H displays every year.

She was very supportive of the work Howard did with the Soil Conservation Service and they traveled to many interesting places. Muriel was a direct descendent of Alexander Majors, one of the owners of the Pony Express, so Nebraska history was always important to her. Muriel loved to do counted cross stitch and made many beautiful pieces to sell at the Lord’s Acre Day in Endicott, having in her home or to give to family and friends.

She loved her Bible reading, the Upper Room and her devotions she read every day. She lived 16 years independently and it was only when she fell and fractured her hip that that part of her life was over.

She is survived by her daughters Nancy Hallstrom and husband Jack, Carolyn Garcia and husband Francis, son Andy and wife Mary Rose, 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Edith Griffey, Gladys Majors, Winifred Nutsch, brother Art and 2 great-grandchildren Christopher Knueven and Cade Garcia.

Services will be on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the Methodist Church in Endicott with Pastor Warren Schoming and Rev. Richard Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Fairbury Cemetery.
