Norman J. Covey

March 19, 1933 — January 2, 2016

Norman James Covey, 82, of Shenandoah, Iowa formally of Fairbury, Nebraska, was born March 19, 1933 in Hebron, Nebraska and graduated from Fairbury High School in 1952. He passed away comfortably at home with his family by his side on January 2, 2016.

He served during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1956 as a Seaman 2nd class, Radarman on the USS Rendova.

Norman married Norma Hurst on January 22, 1955 in Yuma, Arizona. Norm and Norma enjoyed 60 years of marriage and had two boys from this union.

Norman had a long and enjoyable career with Browns Shoe Fit of Shenandoah for 41 years. Norman's main enjoyment, shared by his wife, was living in the country with some acreage to move around and grow. Huron, South Dakota was their first experience of country life, building a new home on 5 1/2 acres. When they located to Shenandoah, Iowa, they again looked for a home in the country. They found and lived in their piece of heaven for 38 years.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence L. and Exzene L. (Young) Covey.

He is survived by his wife Norma of Shenandoah, Iowa, two sons, Nat Covey of Fairbury, Nebraska, Nick Covey and wife Deborah of Beatrice, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Nicole Covey and fiancée Sean Powell of Beatrice, Nebraska and Niles Covey and fiancée Kellie Murnan of Lincoln, Nebraska; one great-granddaughter, Alexandria Covey of Beatrice, Nebraska; one brother-in-law, Robert Hurst of Fairbury, Nebraska; several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to Fairbury Cemetery Association Tree Fund.

Private family burial will be held at the Fairbury, Nebraska Cemetery.
