Omar Charles Hoffman, of Endicott, passed away October 13, 2010 at the Beatrice Good Samaritan Society, at age 81.
Omar was born July 19, 1929 in Haddam, KS in a sandstone house with a dirt floor that his father built. Omar attended school in Kansas through the 8th grade. In 1944, he moved with his parents and siblings to their Endicott farm.

As a young man, Omar worked in Wyoming on a ranch until being called to service with the US Army; he drove an ammunition truck in Korea and received an honorable discharge. Omar then returned to Endicott where he met and married Betty Schipper. They bought his parents’ farm, where they raised 4 children.

Omar enjoyed farming; he raised cattle & swine and grew wheat, corn, soybeans, milo & alfalfa. He also implemented soil conservation practices that earned the farm a conservation award. He & Betty also were awarded an FFA Honorary Chapter degree.

Omar was a member of Endicott United Methodist Church and served on the board. He also served on the District 7 School Board and was elected president. He enjoyed bus trips with Betty, socializing over coffee, making jokes, and teasing friends. He made friends easily wherever he went. He also delighted in teaching the children in the family how to be ornery and delighted in being known as THE ONERY UNCLE.

Omar was preceded in death by his parents, John & Grace (Turner) Hoffman; brothers, infant Myron, John “Dale”, Archie, George Hoffman, sisters-in-laws, Marilyn, Esther,Ruth, and Mairlene Hoffman

Survivors are wife, Betty Hoffman of Endicott; best friend Jenny, his little red dog; brothers, Ivan Hoffman of Nampa ID, Frank Hoffman of Gillette WY, Donald Hoffman and wife Georgene of Minatare NE, Violus Hoffman and wife Velma of Cuero TX; sister, Catherine Shelburne and husband Bob of Endicott; son, Chuck Hoffman and wife Sandi of Buffalo WY; daughters Christine Smith and husband Lowell of Fairbury, Becky Dorn and husband Russell of Beatrice, Tracy Hoffman-Ideus and husband Glenn of Cortland; grandchildren Casey Smith of Lincoln, Nicki Blobaum and husband Mark of Beatrice, Kody Smith of Endicott, Holly Ovalle and husband Carlos of Manor TX, Jamie Dorn of Lincoln, Trenn & Joey Hoffman-Ideus of Cortland; great-grandchildren Carter & Zak Blobaum of Beatrice, sister-in-law Ann Hoffman.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church at Endicott with Pastor Warren Schoming officiating. Burial will be in the Fairbury Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Friday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
